Extremely rare Lucca guild regulation governing the production of textiles, particularly drapery fabrics such as wool, silk and velvet. It precisely defines the duties of a key quality control figure from that time: the marker. The ordinance stipulates that each marker's task is to measure the length and width of all fabrics brought to them, mark them to certify their origin and quality, and record the details of each piece. All of these operations had to be carried out before the fabric was wet, as washing or dyeing it could cause it to shrink or change, which would make subsequent checks inaccurate.
