8vo (212x137 mm). 95, [1 blank] pp. and V engraved folding plates by Gaspare Gaiani after the author's drawing. Contemporary mottled calf, richly gilt spine with morocco lettering piece, red edges (slightly worn). On the front flyleaf bookplate Cav. Cesare Arnò. Tear repaired to plate I, slightly uniformly browned, but a good, genuine copy.

First edition of this work on artillery that was reprinted in Milan in 1894. The author was an officer and military engineer, commanding the entire Cisalpine artillery during the Napoleonic wars in Italy (cf. G. Boccolari, Calori Stremiti, Giovanni Paolo, in: “Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani”, vol. 16, 1973, s.v.).
