José Aguirre Y Lara alumno del 2° curso en los examenes de junio de 1867 Manila) and gilt royal coat-of-arms of Fernando VII de España. Gilt title on spine, gilt ornaments on the panels and on the spine, gilt edges (panels slightly and marginally rubbed). Uniformly browned, but a good and genuine copy.

First edition of this work on the military history of Spain in a premium binding awarded as a prize to José Aguirre y Lara, a cadet studying at the military school in Manila. The book covers the period from 1400 BC, when the territory of Spain was inhabited by indigenous peoples and Phoenicians, to 1864, when Dupont marched against Andalusia. The final section provides an overview of Spain's military situation at the time, making this a valuable historical and military reference work even today.
