Collation: +8 aaaa-xxxx8; ++++4 a-z8 cum8 rum8 &8 A-D8 E4; ++4 aa-kk8; +++4 aaa-zzz8 cumcumcum8 rumrumrum8 &&&4. Lacking the blank xxxx8. The four parts are bound in a wrong order. Every part opens with a separate title page printed in red and black within an elaborate woodcut border incorporating the portrait of St. Thomas and the printer's device (which is also repeated at the end). Woodcut initials. Semi-gothic types, 2 columns, 52 lines. 19th-century half calf gilt, lettering piece on spine, marbled edges. Ownership's entry on first tile page and some manuscript marginal annotations. Small loss to the lower margin of l. &&&4 not affecting the text, margins cut short, some marginal damp-staining, all in all a good copy.

Rare Giunta edition of Thomas Aquinas' Cathena aurea, a celebrated commentary on the Gospels and a true monument to the Scholastic theology.
