Half title, etched title page that shows the genealogical tree of the Adimaris with a view of Florence on the background, woodcut arms of the Adimari's family at p. 119, woodcut initials, headpieces and ornaments. Contemporary purple vellum. Tear to the half title slightly affecting the text, some browning and foxing, but a very good, genuine copy.

 

First and only edition, dedicated to Caterina Adimari Piccolomini Aragona, of this collection of fifty sonnets dedicated to the most illustrious members of the Florentine family of the Adimaris to which the author himself belonged. Each sonnet is accompanied by a prose explanation. Adimari, a translator of the classics and from Spanish and a follower of G.B. Marino, published six collections of poems dedicated to the muses, each of them comprising fifty sonnets: La Polinnia, La Tersicore, La Clio, La Melpomene, La Calliope e L'Urania.
