Very rare first edition (updated reprints will follow in 1664, 1775, 1781 and 1783) of the tariff schedule for all goods, listed in alphabetical order, to be paid for entering the city of Siena.

The so-called “gabella delle porte” (‘city door tariff') magistracy was established in Republican times to collect duties at the city gates and oversee the collection of wine and grain. This function continued during the duchy period, when new duties such as collecting border customs tariffs and monopolies were added. This eventually led to the “gabella delle porte” having superintendence over all direct and indirect state revenues.

Pages 102-107 list the main Sienese sweets (the copate or “cubate,” pampepati, confortini and biricuocoli), which were subject to a tariff if brought into the city from the surrounding area. The text also distinguishes between pastries sweetened with honey and those made with the more expensive cane sugar. However, the tariff schedule does not include marzipan, which was presumably produced in the city, but it does include almonds, which were used to produce it.
