Large vignette on title page, Alberti's portrait on p. v, head- and tailpieces, and at the end the device of Dalla Volpe printing house with a view of Bologna in the background: all engraved by Pio Panfili. Contemporary half vellum, inked title on spine, panels covered by colored papers, marbled edges (slightly rubbed and worn). On title page printed bookplate (partly erased) “D[el] Capo Mastro […] Sassi”. Small tear to plate 47 not affecting the engraving, small holes repaired to the bottom margin of the first three leaves with no text loss, some light scattered browning and foxing, overall a very good, wide-margined copy.


Nicely printed and profusely illustrated edition, which opens with the Vita di Leonbatista Alberti by Raphaël Trichet du Frésne (1611-1661). The text of Alberti's three fundamental treatises, De re aedificatoria, De pictura and De statua, is in the classic translation by Cosimo Bartoli (1503-1572), first appeared in 1550.
