Autore: PIRANESI, Giovanni Battista (1720-1778)-PIRANESI, Francesco (1758-1810)

Dati tipografici: [Roma], [fine XVIII-inizi XIX sec./end of the 18th-beginning of the 19th cent.]

Two parts in one volume, folio (520x395 mm). I-XXI, I-VI plates. Lacking the folding plate III (Focillon 553) from the first part containing the Veduta del prospetto principale della Colonna Trajana. English half calf gilt, yellow edges (worn and rubbed). On the front pastedown engraved bookplate of Sir Edward Henry Scott, 5th Baronet of Lytchett Minster (1842-1883). Tear along the folding in some plates, several plates detached, all in all a well preserved copy.

This is a later issue, with the plates numbered in two separate series in Roman numerals, of this magnificent work dedicated to the Trajan's Column (first series) and the Antoninus Pius' and Apotheosis Columns (second series), whose first issue was printed between about 1775 and 1779. The last two plates of the first series are signed by Piranesi's son Francesco.

Apart from the absence of plate III containing the overall view of the Trajan's Column, the collation of the present copy corresponds to that provided by Focillon.
