Two parts in one volume, folio (395x255 mm). [36], 679, [73]; [188] pp. Collation: πA-πC6 a-z8 A-S8 T-V6 X-Z82A-2B6; a-l8 m6. Leaf m6 is a blank. Woodcut ornated initials. The second part, which opens with a separate title page, contains the extensive index. Vincent's device on title pages. At l. X1 begins the Annotationes by Sigmund Gelen (1497-1554). 17th-century calf, richly gilt spine with raised bands and morocco lettering piece, red edges (minor losses and scratches to panels and spine, but very solid). Some light foxing and browning, a few scattered light damp stains, a very good, wide-margined copy.

 

Imposing edition of Pliny's Natural History, printed by Symphorien Barbier for the publishers Jean Frellon (some copies have his name and device on title pages) and Antoine Vincent, who jointly paid for it. It is a reprint of the 1553 edition, the first edited by Joannes Nicolaus Victorius.
