Rare first edition in Italian (the issue with Arrivabene's device on the title page; there are copies with identical collation and fingerprint with Giovanni Griffio's device instead, see Edit 16, CNCE49121), dedicated by the translator to Silvestro Gigli, of Vida's De arte poetica libri III (first printed in Rome in 1527) in the translation of Nicolò Mutoni who maintains the verse form of the original.

“Marco Girolamo Vida's De arte poetica of 1527, the first of the ‘arts' to concern us, exists in a pre-Platonic and pre-Aristotelian world, one in which there is yet no trace of the fructifying ideas of those two traditions. Its context is thus supplied almost exclusively by Horace and by the rhetoricians, with some borrowings from the defenses of poetry which were already obtaining currency. The basic model is the Ars poetica – for the verse form, for the discursive organization, for the kind of metaphorical and allusive language” (B.
