Falkeisen was a Swiss painter and landscape artist with studios in Paris and Milan. In 1843 a fire destroyed much of his studies and paintings. After a stay in the East, in 1855 he returned to Basel, where in 1859 he was appointed curator of the local Kunstsammlung.
