Woodcut vignette on title page depicting Seneca surrounded by his commentators, among them Bernardinus Marmita and Daniel Caietanus. 9 column-width woodcuts printed from 8 blocks, opening each play except Troas. One large opening and many small woodcut initials. Roman (text) and Greek types (quotations), text in two columns with commentary surround. Modern half vellum. Some staining and foxing, worm tracks and holes occasionally affecting the text, a few leaves more heavily browned, all in all a good copy.


Rare illustrated edition of Seneca's Tragedies accompanied by the commentary of Gellio Bernardino Marmitta (ca. 1440-1497?) and Daniele Gaetani (1461-1528).
