4to (236x165 mm). [16], 408 [i.e. 400] pp. Collation: +4 πB4 A-Ddd4. Errors in pagination. Issue D in which the dedication by the editor to Giovanni Zaratino Castellini has been reset. Engraved title page, woodcut portrait of the author on l. +3r, 20 full-page woodcut vignettes in text, at the beginning of each canto, signed with the initials “V.F.”, which Baverel and Malpé (Notices sur les graveurs, p. 277) identifies with the Verona painter and engraver Francesco Valesio (c. 1570-1650). Woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces. Early 19th-century gilt vellum over boards, lettering piece on spine, marbled edges. Contemporary drawing of a knight on l. C4r. Some browning and foxing, but a good copy.

Nice illustrated edition of Tasso's masterpiece with the commentary of Scipione Gentili (1563-1616), that had been separately printed in 1623. The edition also contains Tasso's life by Bartolomeo Barbato and the Notizie storiche by Lorenzo Pignoria (1571-1631), famous polygraph and collaborator of the Padua typographer Pietro Paolo Tozzi.
