Biblia utriusque testamenti

8vo (150x100 mm). [8], 620, [4] leaves. Collation: *8 A-Z8 Aa-Zz8 Aaa-Zzz8 Aaaa-Iiii8. Leaf Iiii8 is a blank. Contemporary flexible vellum with overlapping edges, traces of ties, the number “66” and the date “1548” inked on spine (slightly soiled). On the last flyleaf the purchase notes “Io Philippo Matiolo ho comprato questa bibia de lano 1555 L.3” and below “Dico Philippo Matiolo da Castedelo [sic] franco et lo comprata in Modona”. Unusual woodcut vignette on title page, probably made from two blocks, showing an armed and kneeling Joshua, helmet at his feet and reaching toward Yaveh who, perched in a cloud, urges him to observe the Torah. A very good, genuine copy.

An exceptionally fresh copy in its contemporary vellum binding of a rare pocket Bible.
